Hey old and new inner ear warriors

I have not been on the boards for a while. But I just went threw and read a bunch and discovered that many of you are doing better... Scott, Katkin, CL,Subs Ilia and more. this made me smile so00000000 big!!

I myelf am in month 13 and doing better. Still know that something is off but functioning better.

to summarize this is what I have learnt since I was last on the boards. Comments appreciated:

-I wish the grocery store trip would get a little easier.....
-Airports are not designed for the vestibularly challenged. Just when I thought I did not get dizzy much anymore, I entered the food court at Newark airport
-The more I move around the more "normal" I feel psychologically, but the less normal I feel "physically" towards the end of the day
-Positive thinking and denial go hand and hand
-Sleep does get better. Nightmares go away
-Brain Fog gets better. But somedays you feel worse then other with NO apparent reason.
- My eyes need rest, not excercise. I think I need to excercise my eyes more but what they need is actually rest. The muscles are just over worked from looking out at the world
-Your significant others will try with all their heart to understand but the fact that you are trying with all you energy to be normal and pulling it of will confuse them sometimes and they will forget that you still can't totaly keep up with there intense pace
-after 10 min in a resteraunt I am able to slightly relax
-The mornings and dusk are the worse times of day
-I cannot listen to my neurotologist who told me I would have this forever, cause "some people just do and they don't know why"
-EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) really helps with symptoms if one consistently play with it
-Wind is the enemy. I wear scarfs in San Francisco even in August. Wind aggravtes all my symptoms
-The IPOD cannot be played in my ears
-I will be able to drink red wine again
-Hypnosis CDs help with the stress of it all
-I still don't know how the modified epley truly works but I'll do it anyway
-Started Yoga again, praying that downward dog does not aggravate
-Rock Concerts are difficult but doable with a lot of will!

Sending you all love and healing light savors
Peace
Jade

Hi Jade:
Glad to hear from you and so glad to hear you're doing better! I think when I responded to a post of yours awhile back it was the first time I had ever got on here. It seems ages ago (thank God) and I am also doing much better.
Sounds like you have done well in readjusting to this. Good for you!

Hi Jade,

I've experienced most of the things you wrote at one stage or another. Haven't plugged myself into an ipod lately but given some good results on the recent flight I was on, perhaps I can handle it again. I watched a few feature films on the jet coming home and no rev up occurred. I got a slight rev on the way over though watching Mr and Mrs Smith...could have been Angelina Jolie!! :D

Glad things are getting better for you. Still using EFT a lot?

Cheers...Scott

JADE

Your post made me smile - many of the things you mention I can relate to.

I however have just bought an MP3 player and am fine with it - weird. No improvement this end. Coping seems to be my middle name but I have just got through and really enjoyed, being my sister's bridesmaid. I am currently practising CBT and trying hard to do what the hospital and Ilia say about treating the dizziness as a pest rather than a big hindrance.

You take care xxx

hi all

i'm a new member in the board. when I started having the severe vertigo after a bad cold virus, it felt very bizarre!!! and thought i'm the only unfortunate person to suffer like this...vertigo, dizziness, stiffness & numbness of the neck and left shoulder and arm, whole body fatigue, heaviness of the limbs..etc I did full body checkup including CT scan & MRI for the brain and caloric and hearing tests ane the weird thing is that every test appears NORMAL!!! thanks god for that of course, but its frustrating.
i've been suffering for the last three months. I'm frustrated because
it caught me in a very crucial time as I was just about to start writing my Phd thesis in Plant systematics and Phylogeny. It impaired me totatlly as i am not able to read or write from the pain neck and dizziness. I've been to many specialists and the last diagnosis is Vestibular Neuritis. I still have an appoinment with a neurologist on Monday, 10th Oct 2005 and doubt he will give me any treatment!? is there a treatment or is this condition curable?? and how long does it take? I started Acupuncture last week and still on it! the chinese Doctor said I have a spine inflamation after a cold virus...little releif so far...

regards,
Al-Farsi

Hi Al-Farsi,

Mine started after a virus/ear infection but my neck hurt so bad in the beginning. After about 4 months it stopped. I still get it occassionally as I'm in my 9th month with this stuff, but the neck pain is nothing like it was in the beginning and it only acts up maybe for a day or two every other month. I also have headache/migraine constantly and tried the acupuncture back in June. My head hurt more after 1 session and I never went back but others on this board have sworn by it so maybe give it a little longer.

Take care,
Gloria
