I work the night shift at a hospital, so I have wierd sleep patterns. Mine isn't an insomnia problem really. I can usually fall asleep, but I toss and turn throughout the entire night when I don't have to work, or day when I get home from work. I wake up to go to the bathroom at least once and I seem to look at the clock countless times. I'm exaughsted when I wake up and just can't seem to function. any suggestions? I want to try a sleep medicine but im not sure what one.

BTW, this was happening before I even started my job, so it has nothing to do with working 3rd shift.

I just want to sleep at least 7 hours STRAIGHT!!

maybe try melatonin, its not addictive and doesnt leave you feeling tired...I usually stay asleep about 7 hrs that way and wake up not feeling "drugged". Some of the newer sleep aids are ok, I'm not sure which kind I have, I usually buy generic. I know, I always wake up to go to the bathroom, I hate that!! Maybe try something relaxing before bed like a hot shower. Or watch a little tv to take your mind off stuff. Also, regular exercise can help or like a nice walk before bed. Good luck.

It doesn't help for me to relax right before. I take a bath all the time to try to relax myself and watch tv, and i can get to sleep fine, but it's STAYING asleep that is the problem....I should look into melatonin. how can get it? is it at any grocery store in the vitamin and medicine isle?? :D
