 Hello. I was prescribed .25 mg of Xanax to take only when needed during anxiety or panic attacks. Aside from the fact that this drug is addictive...is it safe? I am one of those that has a fear of taking medications. I am always worried the side effects will kill me or an allergic reaction. I also think I will OD even on a small amount. I know it's stupid but the fear is real. I won't even take tylenol. So I have taken one...went through my moment of anxiety hoping I won't die...then felt better and slept better than I have in a long time. How soon after taking the 1st pill can I take another if my anxiety comes back. I called a pharmacist and he was no help. He said that the pill will last in my system for a couple days?! I also get a headache about 30 min after taking the pill and the pharmacist said that is not common. He said it wasn't on the list of side effects so should I be worried that this is a bad reaction? Thanks for any advice you can help me with.

i think you can take one every 4 hrs ( thats what it says on my script) but you should probably ask your Dr what he wants you to do..
.25 is a really small dose but if you were going to have a bad reaction to it you would have with the first dose. headache is listed as a common side effect for xanax so i am not sure why your pharmacist didnt have it listed.

Gidget - Xanax is very safe in small doses and taken in moderation like you are taking it. I have had headaches from Xanax but usually its because it makes me tired. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. I don't think it matters when you take your next dose, you can probably just take it when you need it. That's what i do with mine, sometimes I have to take one only an hour after my first dose if the first dose isn't working. but like Punkdizzle said call your dr if you are concerned.

Xanax only stays in your bloodstream for 4 hours, according to my Dr.
