My doctors office says I have osteoporosis but told me to take Caltrate with Vitamin D. Should I be taking Fosomax?

Not necessarily.
I've known for a year and I am not taking it. I only take extra calcium and vit D and I exercise. (btw, I am 34).
My sister tried Fosamax but the side effects were too much for her. Neither of us WANT to take it. I'm hoping that by the time I NEED it they will have something better (like the patch or some other form). Which they should have by 10 yrs, I hope :)
My sister has known longer than I and has kept her numbers steady without drugs. I'm hoping for the same. It won't hurt you at all not to take it at least until they see what your numbers look like in a year. Bones are slow growing so it will take that long to see if they are steady or worsening, then they can adjust things accordingly.
My endo said "you may have just been born with thinner bones", which may be true. But older familiy members are hunched from Osteo - so I'd like to not wait TOO long before we try something different.
