NeuroticHousewife 10-06-2005, 04:22 PM Left Ventricular function - Calculated ejection fraction is 59%. started04 10-08-2005, 11:39 AM Left Ventricular function - Calculated ejection fraction is 59%. A 50 to 55% is the cutoff into the abnormal range. If one has mitral valve regurgitation (depending on severity), 59% could be marginally inefficient otherwise OK barring any other vascular disorder. Decreasing the afterload such as high blood pressure could increase into a more acceptable level of around 65% NeuroticHousewife 10-08-2005, 12:01 PM I have not been dx with MVP and have low BP. I do have either SVT or IST however, but have been told not to worry about it. Should I not worry that 59% seems so low?? I am only 31 and fairly healthy...no smoking, eat right, dont drink, no caffiene.... started04 10-08-2005, 08:07 PM My EF is around 50% and with moderate MV regurg the doc puts the fraction of cardio output around 45%. There are people with an EF at 25% and function well, but eventually a dangeriously low EF will cause the heart/system to compensate and over time there will be damage to the heart if not treated and possibly deterioration even when treated. If your LV is normal size, BP and HR normal, the 59% should be of no concern. More importantly is how one feels, tolerance for activity and exercise. NeuroticHousewife 10-08-2005, 08:16 PM Well, I do have tachycardia - either SVT or IST. Not sure which. Likely IST. I take a beta blocker. I wonder why when they gave me the results for my Echo, she said my heart was 'wonderful'. It seems an overstatement if I need to eventually worry about this. jpos 10-09-2005, 09:08 PM 55-65 is normal and some cardios will say 50-65. Then they say with a 5% margin, meaning give or take on the number they gave. I was at 50 and told everything was fine. I have since had echos that put me at 60-65. (I have mild mvp, mr, and tr, IST and NCS. Echo shows mildly elev. pulmonary pressure, too). started04 10-10-2005, 11:00 AM Well, I do have tachycardia - either SVT or IST. Not sure which. You are a perfect candidate for aerobic exercise sessions. Within a short time that will lower your heart rate as well strengthen your heart's contraction to increase your EF. NeuroticHousewife 10-10-2005, 11:08 AM Cardio makes me feel terrible. I get super lightheaded and faint. I want to exercise more (now I basically just walk and do sit ups and arm weights)...but it literally makes me feel AWFUL. |
