Sponsor tallulahxo 10-07-2005, 09:33 AM at first, lamictal can be known to cause an array of weird side effects including nausea, thirst, headaches and anxiousness/agitation...etc. im sure youve also discussed the OTHER side effects such as any rashes or muscle aches that MAY arise with this medication, right? ive been taking lamotrigine for over 8 months now for mood stabilization and its worked WONDERS for my depression - not so much my cycling (ultradian cycler here) or mania. heck - i STILL have the thirst problems every now and then which i dont see as a problem...just have a lot of water on hand :) what dosage are you at now? XO spy 10-16-2005, 09:14 AM Hi I've had most of those side effects when I started out on Lamictal, but they went away within a couple of weeks. If you're not taking it with food, you should try it. I still get some nausea in the morning after I take it but once I eat something small it goes away. Good luck. luv2bug 10-16-2005, 09:28 AM I have just been prescribed Lamictal. Hi, My son is on this medication and he takes it at night before bed he says it helps with the symtoms so far it has helped him I didn't notice a change  in him until about a month after he started taking it JSDell 10-20-2005, 01:07 PM We took Lamictal over a yr ago and my husband had horrible side effects. He got very angery and out of control. Our Dr., at the time, gave great advise...right...he told me to call the police...a lot of good he was.... Needless to say he's no longer our Dr. and I am still contemplating reporting him to the medical review board..but that is for another thread....Luckily I knew how to get us off this drug without too much problem. It took 2 weeks and dealing with my husband's anger for 2 weeks was hard and it was really hard on him. We did it...and I would never never take a new drug again...not until it's been on the market for 2 + yrs. There are just too many unknowns to take that kind of chance with our lives and our sanity. Damage could be permanent. We stick to the older meds and diet, vitamins, exercise, regular sleep cycle, and keeping our life calm. JSDell 10-20-2005, 01:14 PM Oh I forgot to mention, all these problems we had with Lamictal started after we had been taking Lamictal for approx. 6 weeks. Our problems started off with muscle spasms. After a month I chose to quit taking Lamictal and weaned my self off if over 2 weeks. My husband chose to keep taking them for another few weeks. He was willing to put up with the terrible side effects in the hopes Lamictal would be an answer for his problems. His painful and disabling thigh muscle spasms went on all day for 3 weeks and in the last week [now week 7-8 of being on Lamictal] when his anger got so out of control I called our Psychiatrist who had prescribed them was no help at all, he just told me to call the police! So we ended up getting off Lamictal by our selves. Luckily I knew how to do that. If you have to go off these meds make sure you talk to a Dr. and wean yourself over a period of weeks....unless told otherwise by your Dr. miku500us 10-24-2005, 01:20 PM I have been on lamictal at 150mg for about 2 months now and I feel great.. I do have the thirst problem but other than that no real big side effects its been working great for me... it doesn't have the major weight gain side effects of lithium and I love it mostly becuase its brought my moods way closer to normal than they ever have been before. I also have a mix of boarderline and bipolar disorders so it is very hard to treat especially since there are hardly any medications out there for the mix of boarderline and bipolar.. lamictal is the only one that has made some effect on the both of them... I still have some really bad days but not as many as before thank god. katkat01 10-26-2005, 02:19 AM the nausea hits home for me. i was throwing up every day for like 2 weeks after each lamactil increase even just small ones. it was awful....however after that two weeks i felt sooo much better. stable and im a super rapid-cycler. im able to handle the bad things that happen without giving in to my emotions. also not feeling manic im in the middle and it feels great. stick with it! |
