Been reading about this, and supposedly the new dynamic plating allows for more balance throughout the graft. Has anyone's doctor suggested this will help reduce adjacent disc problems in the long run? Has anyone had this? Finally for those who have fusion with plating, and after your neck has fused do the plates bother you when you swallow?

hi
I had swallowing difficulties after plate installed for fusion C456. It got better but not completely. Prior to recent fusion on C67 I again had swallowing difficulties which I assumed was the disc protuding forward as well as on to the cord. After surgery with plate across C67 I have no difficulty in swallowing at all! Previous plate was removed at this time also. I decided that the level of the plate had something to do with it
Oh... did have something a bit odd and that was if I looked up while swallowing I had sharp pain at back of neck... It disappeared after a few weeks. (after last surgery)

Am two and a half years out of two level anterior plating and apart from an initial feeling of fullness in my throat which lasted a couple of weeks I've had absolutely no problems.
However, I've noticed from other posts that quite a few people have noticed some problems swallowing which have lasted quite a while - I don't know whether it's related to the type of plate used.
Are you are candidate for artificial disc? - sounds like if you do need surgery which I understand you've been trying to avoid, it might be the most 'natural' way of dealing with your problems.
Let us know if you get more information about the 'dynamic' plate.
