Has anyone tried drinking Pu-erh Tea to help reduce cholesteral?? I found it on the internet while researching decaf tea. Supposedly there are several studies showing that drinking 3 cups per day can reduce the LDL levels. I have been using it for several months now and my LDL did come down 14 points to 130 from 144. Just trying to decide if I should continue with it....I have also been watching ye old fat intake....

Thanks
Becky

Not supposedly - there actually have been studies of tea (including pu-erh) and effects of consumption on lipids. Some published study results and abstracts (and in some cases, full text) of these studies can be located by searching National Library of Medicine's PubMed database. Here is an example of one such study.

I don't know what the difference is between that tea and green tea, but my dr. suggested I drink the green tea, as I couldn't take the Niacin. 4 months ago I started drinking Bigelow green tea and also taking 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon, suggested by Frankie (heart44) on this site, and last month my TC went from 239 to 198 and my LDL from 161 to 126. I also have been eating oatmeal each morning, but have been doing that for almost a year. Have no idea if the tea and cinnamon really worked, or if it was a fluke, but for now, it keeps my dr. off my back.... ;)

As long as U like it and it has lowering affects, keep up with it till U see how your numbers are next time.

Best of luck......

BTW...Welcome to the boards, alot of nice folks here that are more then glad to try and help, and they do their homework, so ask away!!!

Thanks for the site on the research. Will go and read it. Now as to liking the tea. NO WAY!!! The tea is described as having an earthy taste. My hubby describes it as top soil. But I have been drinking a quart of it a day...

Thanks for the welcome to the group. I have been reading for a couple of months just trying to work up my courage to post a question. After reading all the good information I also have started taking cinnamon capsules every day. Won't find out for another week or two if they are working.

Thanks for the great advice.

My husband will not drink it either, he said it was too bitter for him. I told him to add a lil lemon juice to it, but so far, I'm not making my case... :D One thing he did do isstart the cinnamon, so one out of two isn't too bad, who knows, I might get him to do the tea routine yet. I really like the taste of the Bigelow with a hint of lemon, I find it easy to drink, and like U, go thru a quart a day. I tried the peach flavor, but didn't like it, but that is just me.

Glad U decided to post, like I said, many folks here disagree on some things, but are always willing to try and give their honest opinion on things, and I also have gotten some good advice. Welcome again, and good luck with the numbers. Do keep us posted, and like I said, just ask away, no question is dumb, we can't find things out unless we ask.

Have a great nite and day tomorrow......

JJ,

I've never like tea either - so going that route definitely would not work for me either.

I've been taking about 1/4 teaspoon of regular Cinnamon spice that you buy at the grocery store - not sure if this is as good as taking the Cinnamon capsules... I've also been putting some Cinnamon in my coffee - I like the taste.

Do me a big favor will you? Find me a study that says that drinking 2-3 bottles per day of Corona with Lime lowers cholesterol!!!!!

Hi Hubble....Hubby doesn't mine tea too much, but he doesn't like the green tea at all, way too bitter for him. Oh well, can't make him drink stuff he doesn't like. At least I have him taking the cinnamon each morning, so that is a start. He likes to put it right in his coffee, and yes, I use the stuff U buy at the store, what the heck, it only costs about 1.29.

I'll try later to find that study on Corona and Lime, gosh it has to be on the web somewhere....... :D

U have a great day, it is pouring here with high winds. A pole at the end of our driveway somehow caught on fire and snapped in half, so U can imagine the mess we have going on here. Fool top of the pole and all the wires are laying across a big tree of mine, and my driveway. At least we got our power back, but what a way to start a morning, but it has to get better.. ;)

Enjoy, and TTYL....
