I hope someone can help. I think I am getting alzheimer's at 30, because of a face lift I had 2 years ago. I have some screws in my head from a brow lift, and it seems that something has been attacking my own body, possibly autoimmune diseases. The one thing is that it attacked my cartlidge and it is so hard for me to breath because of the slipping of some ribs. I felt for 2 months like I was in a coma, and now it is so hard to do anything. My tests for cognitive function was absolutely horrible. My neurologist says that it is not ms or parkinsons, or any other diseases or infections like that. I feel like I have been drinking so much alcolhol, that it has made me almost unconscious. I will be getting the screws out. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if screws can do this. I am allergic to nickle, and I'm not sure what kind of screws they are. Hope someone can help me.

I thought they used titanium inside bodies .... ????
Spatel, I would advise you see a specialist in cognitive disorders. Arrange a POA with your nearest relative and above all .. treat yourself kindly but sensibly!!
Cheers

Hi -
Sally, you're correct, the screws and other implants are usually titanium. It's inert and few are allergic to it.
Perhaps a doctor specializing in autoimmune diseases could help find out what's happening. A teaching hospital would be another resource for diagnosis.
Wishing you well - Barbara

Thanks guys for your responses. Yes I thought they were titanium also, but not all are. Some are steel screws. Anyway, there is the screws, and also sutures that are supporting the screws. I have a hyperactive immune system, because I do have allergies. However it never attacked my cartlidge for 29 years. It only started doing that after this surgery. I hope by taking these out, that I will be ok. I just dont see too much hope. I'm going to then get a tracheotomy, and whatever function I have I will have to do with. Thanks for your help.

Hi -
Are you having enough breathing problems that your must have a trach? I'm sorry if this is the case and hope some cure, improvement in your symptoms. or medicine can prevent this step or delay it.
Hope the screw and plate (supports the screws, sutures alone don't in my experience) removal will really help you. Again, perhaps you'd benefit from the expertise at a teaching hospital.
Wishing you well - Barbara
