How long will it take to heal after having four wisdom teeth extracted? My jaw is bothering me the most. Is this normal?

There are a number of variables which can affect the time it takes for your gums to heal after getting your wisdom teeth out. Given the optimum conditions:

Follow Dentist's instructions.

Use a salt water rinse.

Eat soft foods.

Absolutely no smoking.

The discomfort should decrease in a few days. The swelling should go down within a week. The stiches should come out within two weeks. Completely healed in one to two months.

The problem is that few people ever stick to what the Dentist told them to do for more than a couple days. They try to eat things that they shouldn't. Even worse, they are determined to smoke and would likely attempt to do so were they standing in a tub full of gasoline. That can drag the healing process out weeks longer and cause complications.

So, how long it takes to heal is up to you.
