So I learned I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. What this is, is that I can't get to bed and wake up at "socially accepted times".
For years I've been going to bed at 2,3,4 even 5AM and waking around noon. I haven't had a morning job for a while till the last one, which I lost after just 2 moths, b/c of sleeping problems.
Anybody knows what I should do? It's a behaviour problem. Going to bed at 11PM or midnight seems extremely early! I've been doing this for years and don't know how to break the cycle. Even when I'm extremely sleepy, I still won't go to bed earlier!

Hello,

I had no idea there was such a thing as Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I've had this for years and have been lucky enough to have a job that accomodates my weird schedule.

I have also tried on many occasions to rewire myself to sleep according to what is considered "normal." Nothing I have tried worked. So if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

I also heard (or read) recently that it is not good to try to rewire yourself to be morning person if you are a night owl. I can't remember why it's not good--I was just pleased w/ the info that it's not good because I like being a night owl.

Yeah, specially if your partner has an EARLY morning job and has to be in bed by 11PM it's no fun, because I just don't feel sleepy at that time yet.
But I don't see why "rewiring" would be a problem.
It would definitely take some time getting used to after we've been doing this for years. I'd love to become a morning person! I feel quite bland in winter, because I only get a few hours of sunlight and it has an effect on my mental well-being. But I just can't get myself to bed!
I feel, if I didn't need to sleep, I woulndn't! There's just too many things I want to do and too few hours in a day. However, if I don't get at least 7 hours of sleep I don't feel well.
