Hello I just started taking my second month of Tricor 48mg, my Triglycerides are 720, total cholesterol is 228 and HDL is 35 which is low and because the tri's were so high they couldn't get an accurate reading on the LDL. I have changed my diet, and have yet to excercise because I have a DVT in my calf and have to take it easy, I just weighed myself and I am at 250! I am a female, 5'9 and never imagined it could happen to me, after all I once weighed in at 388!I went on a diet and lost over 160lbs at one time, but slowly since being off work and resting from this blood clot, I have put on the weight. I am going to be 39 in a couple of months and I am afraid of having a heart attack before I am 40. I am trying to change my eating habits, I cut out all saturated fat and eat all low to no fat. I watch my carbs. Obviously my tri's were too high for just a diet alone, I have found that the only side effect from taking tricor at first was constipation, which was a good thing for me since I have IBS and have diarrea most of the time, so that was an added bonus for me, and it has actually straightened out my digestive track as far as not having to go all the time, but about the second week I started taking Tricor I started feeling little heart palps. The first med they started me on was Lopid, but that drug was horrible, the palps where so bad they made my jaws slam together from the palps and they actually hurt. They finally went away about 3 weeks after quitting that drug, so they decided to put me on tricor. Well the palps only start a few hours before its time to take the next dose, can this be sort of a withdrawl effect between doses???
I am going to talk to my doctor, but I don't go back for sometime now, so I thought that maybe someone out there can relate or can tell me if this is going to go away? I read up on the side effects of this drug, it doesn't say anything about heart palps..The other medication I am taking I have been on for sometime now, and never had any problems with palps. They get worst the closer it gets to my next dose, then after I take it, I still have them for at least 2 hours after then they go away...until the next night! Thank you for any comments you can give me. I also take a multivitamin/multimineral supplement that has COQ-10 250mcg. I have been taking this for 2 months now, I haven't seen a difference yet. I am tired all the time, and just plain feel like crap. Other than the DVT, high Tri's, I am a type 2 diabetic, and have asthma, and severe case of IBS with diarrea, so you see I am a mess, but I am trying to make myself better one way or the other. Stroke's run in my family, along with breast cancer, lung cancer, and chrones, colitis. SO I have to watch each avenue so that I can try and protect myself, they never did tell me why my tri's are so high, that kind of stuff doesn't run in my family, in fact I am the first to have it so high. I am thinking its my weight, but I was so much heavier before and never had a problem with it, I guess I got lucky the first time around, I am hoping that if I loose the 100lbs that I want to, it will go away....

Hi shelly 49001; I see you have a great deal of medical comorbities. What you need is professional help. If your feeling palps and your concerned that by all means call your pmd and tell him. Better yet make an appointment NOW and see him asap. Talking over the phone and asking for help from people who dont know you wont get you the right answers your are looking for. I've tried all the statins and had disasterous results so I know what I am talking about. good luck
