mark121212 10-09-2005, 11:34 PM which foods lower chol........ Sponsor Moxie75 10-10-2005, 08:12 AM Whole foods such as fruits and veggies and beans and whole grains such as barley, oats, brown rice and whole wheat . Also cinnamon...Lisa gardeninggal 10-11-2005, 05:30 PM Mark, Moxie is right. I thought maybe you would like to hear more about those foods and others that lower cholesterol. I truly believe "You are what you eat" Your body was made to use certain foods in certain forms in order to run properly and to fight off disease and to also heal itself. Without the proper nutrition it can only do half the job. Almonds: those that ate almonds 4 times a week had 1/2 the heart attacks as the test group and reduced their cholesterol from 235 to 215 in 3 weeks. Apples: the natural pectin in apples works a a cholesterol cutter. They have flavonoids which seems to short-circuit the process that leads LDL to accumulate in the bloodstream. Evidence shows that apples help cut cholesterol as much as 15 points. Beans and Barley: Both are filled with fiber which lowers cholesterol but more then that they lower the bad LDL. Beta Carotene in the form of 2 cups of cooked carrots every other day and aspirin each day proved in one 5 year test involving Doctor's that these Doctor's had no heart attacks during the 5 years where as the other group just taking the aspirin had lowered their risk by only 40%. Calcium: The University of Texas research showed men with moderately high cholesterol put on a high calcium diet 2,200 mgs each day, after 10 weeks their LDL cholesterol fell 6 %. (1 % decrease in LDL = 2 % decrease in heart disease) Mark, I have only just touched on the subject of foods that bring good health and that is not speaking about vitamins and things like fish oil capsules, Niacin therapy etc. You have your computer and the world of information is before your eyes, take charge now and you can be a healthier person before you know it. Good luck and good choices. JJ 10-11-2005, 10:06 PM Mark, so far U got some good advice. Take some time and read as many of the posts here as possible, alot of good info. on this site. Don't forget those fruits and veggies, and stay away from sugary stuff and pre boxed things, as those will raise your Trigs and sugar levels even. 1/4 to a 1/2 tsp. of regular store bought cinnamon is very good for the TC and LDL as well as keeping your blood sugar levels in check. The list just goes on and on, so take some time and do web searchers for low glycemic foods, and also the good fats, vs. the bad fats. Fish is great as long as U don't overdo, especially Salmon and tuna. Also try Oatmeal in the a.m., can even sprinkle some cinnamon on it. Good luck, hope all this helped, but I'm sure others will be more then happy to answer your questions....... Lenin 10-13-2005, 11:11 AM My three faves for lipid level improvement are FISH, FIBER and ALCOHOL. lane413 10-15-2005, 10:10 PM Here are the foods that lower cholesterol. I got this out of my diabetic magazine. They are: cherries, dried apricots, oranges, green peppers, cucumbers, spinach, broccoli, sweet potatoes, squash, cayenne peppers, curry and arthichokes. Of course, it named green tea and oolong tea. |
