my baby boy is almost 2 weeks old, when does the breathing get normal, he still breathes fast, then slow, it scares the heck out of me, sometimes it sounds like he inhales a few times and forgets to exhale, im told its normal

plus when he came out, his head is swollen at the spot that came first, its still swollen and soft, how long before it goes away?

Our babies are within two days of age. I am sorry I don't know the answers to your questions. My baby's breathing hasn't really concerned me, it seems normal and he came so fast he didn't really have any spots on his head.

I am curious do you BF or formula? Our son eats about 3 ounces every 2-3 hours, he's less than 2 weeks (Tomorrow will be 2) and he's gone through 3 cans of powdered formula. *WHOA* lol
I'm amazed at how fast that stuff goes.

Hello I have a 3 week old and Her breathing is exactly like what you described. Like she forgets to breath and then tries catching her breath. I came on her to look this up actually.

The breathing is normal. My Daughter is almost 4 months old and still (rarely) does this super fast breathing and then seems like she forgot to do it and then starts up or it slows down. It is normal and will change in about a month or so. No need to worry.

Yeah don't worry about the breathing. A doctor came to our local mum and baby group recently and he said all babies breathe quite erratically. Sometimes they breathe so gently you can't hear or see it but if you put a hand on their tummy you can feel it moving (you won't feel their chest move you have to feel the top of the tummy).

My DD also had a very swollen head from being born. The general swelling went down within 10 days of so but she had two huge bumps from the ventouse and those took nearly 6 weeks to totally go.

My baby is 11 days old and also has this erratic breathing. Last night she was making some strange noises and really freaking me out. I remember from my first 2 that this happens I just couldn't remember for how long. She also makes chirping and whistling sounds when she sleeps. She's a squeaky baby. I'm sure its nothing to worry about.....but that doesn't mean we won't! :)
