HI all,
I've posted in the past under patulous eustachion tube. But I just went through a day of vestibular test and that diagnosis was wrong. 15 years ago I was diagnosed with otosclerosis and had the stapes surgery. 2 years later I had revision to tighten the screw. All has been fine until may of the year when I started hearing myself talk in my other ear. my otolaryngologist said I had pet. He gave me the ususal treatment of nose sprays and premarin drops. While I was taking the premarin my ear that had otosclerosis started acting up with pulsatile tinniuts( hearing your hearbeat, thumping swooshing) extremely loud. The Dr finally said he had no clue as to what was going on. So thats when I got in contact with the University of Michigan hospital. They put me through a whole day of vestibular test along with a specilaized CT scan. Results are I have a fistula where they did the stapes surgery and I now have otosclerosis in my other ear. The Dr. said they could do surgery to repair the fistula but it could leave me dizzy. I came through the first 2 stapes surgery with very little dizziness and only for a short period of time. He said he would not do surgery on the newly discovered otosclerosis due to the fact that I have lost all the hearing in the first ear, and they would not take a chance on my good ear (which I have hearing lost also). Has anyone had a fistula from stapes surgery and how did it turn out. I am trying to decide to have the fistula repaired or not.

thanks for your help,
kadida1
