I had a total colectomy with ileo-rectal anastomosis on the 29th September - today I have had sore solid bms - is it ok for me to use anusol or equivalent haemorroid cream to soothe me?

Hi Caley....I think that the anusol should pose no problem...just make sure you keep it as much on the outside and not internal where it would interfere with the surgical anastomosis area. Some of these have an applicator that you insert into the rectum...I would not do that :nono: ....just put some of the cream on a tissue and rub it on the area that is sore.

I also found that if you place some Tucks pads in the fridge and do your final wipe with one that helps....if it is really sore try tucking one in a little and wear it for a while with a pantyliner in place so it doesn't go through.

Hope this helps....Goody
