View Full Version : Bloody Stool?

Okay, um, basically, today and yesterday I noticed my stool had some dark redness to it. I am really scared about this and I do not know why this happened. I did eat beets for two days, but that was two days ago, and I do not know if it really relates to that. My stool was darker in color and the red parts of it were rather dark, too. Some of the blood transferred into the water of the tiolet revealing a very unnatural bright red; not like blood. Could this just be the beets, or is this something serious? I'm only 18 years old! I don't want to be sick.

Also, and I worry this could be the cause: I was sick a week ago [like the cold or flu or whatever it was] and was under [I]a lot of mediciation. Could my medicine have made me sick? Should I see a doctor?

So far I have not had any other symptoms.

Help!

It sounds like beets, but if it happens again without any food coloring components involved, get checked out. Blood in the stools usually produces a very dark "tarry" stool, not bright red. If it is still going on after a few days, go to your doctor. It could be anythign from hemmoroids to a small tear to cancer. Given what you have said, it is most likely nothing to worry about. It is good that you are paying attention, though. Always check things out when they continue. It won't get better by itself if it is something serious. I don't know what medication you were on, but some of them can cause color changes in the urine or stool. Good Luck!
