Flu vaccine does not protect you from the stomach flu or other virus ailments, it protects against the strain of flu they think will be a biggie this year.

The "flu" isn't a stomach condition. Influenza is a respiratory illness. Symptoms of influenza include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle aches and sometimes ssymptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you just had a stomach virus, it's unlikely that you had the actual "flu," but another gastro-virus.
In any case, if you're worried, get the vaccination. I got the vaccine for years when I was in school and working and couldn't afford to get sick. I never had any problems. I didn't get sick from the vaccine, and I didn't become ill from influenza. Vaccination is a cheap fix and if it will calm your worries, go for it.
Also, viruses don't skip a year. It's possible to have any cold-season virus more than once a year, and there are people who get it every year.
To lessen your chances of contracting any virus, avoid close contact with people who are sick. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Wash your hands often, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. These viruses travel in the air, so it's hard to avoid exposure if you work with people, but these steps should help.

I've been getting the flu shot since 1997 and never had a problem with it neither have I ever had the flu...it seems to work fine for me. In fact, I rarely ever even get a bad cold anymore, might be pure coincidence but anyway, I always get vaccinated as soon as the flu shots come out. Stomach flu is entirely different, but I've never had that. The shot wont help there.
