I am a 27 year old man who, as a child, had a brain tumor. Through the treatment of that tumor with radiation, I have developed osteoperosis. My endocrinologist has put me on testosterone injections once a month to try and reverse it. So far it's worked; my bones are 10% better!
What I want to know is: "Is there any information out there for those of us men who are going through this?" All the medication out there for osteoperosis is advertised for "Post-Menopausal Women". "Will this medication not work for men?"

I don't have a lot of information, just that I do know a man who takes Fosamax and it's working for him. But if the steroid shots are working, why do you want to take it? The heartburn can be killer (for some).

My husband has primary osteoporosis. He was diagnosed 6 years ago when he was 49, and has been taking Fosamax since that time, because there is no treatment specifically for men. It's hard to say whether it's working any more. He had very good results the first couple of years and now he seems to be losing bone mass again. But he's afraid that if he stops taking it the bone loss will accelerate. So he intends to continue it as long as his endocrinologist says he should. Every day he takes 1500 mg of calcium plus D, 750 mg magnesium, and does weight-bearing exercise.

In your case, correcting the condition that caused your osteo sounds logical and may be all that you need. Fosamax can cause problems for some people, but others tolerate it just fine, including my husband and my grandmother. I decided not to take it, after reading "The Myth of Osteoporosis" by Gillian Sanson. I highly recommend that you read that book before making your decision whether to take Fosamax.

I have a male friend who is on Forteo and it's been working just fine. Pre menopausal women and men take these medications. I think ostoeoporosis was more common in post menopausal women so that's the patient population the medications were developed for.

Sounds like my Life; I'm a 37-year-old male. I had a brain tumor when I was 3 or 4 and was told I had 6 months to live. I was Just diagnosed with MS 2 months ago and now Osteoporosis of the spine. Funny how I'm very active riding dirt bikes and quads and work lifting heavy objects as part of my job. You could never tell I had either.
Hopefully I can get some bone mass back with exercise and vitamins.

Just started the MS shots today :(
