Have any of you tried the book "no-cry sleep solution" by Elizabeth Pantley?
It's supposed to teach you ways to have your baby sleep THROUGH the entire night with little or no crying. It's good for any age but obviously the sooner you get it the better.

This technique is an alternative to the 'cry it out' one (where you teach your baby to sleep by just letting them cry all night). After 5min of my baby crying I just go crazy so I know I won't be able to do it, so trying this other technique sounds good and so many people just swear by it.

My son still wakes up 2-4 times at night, so I'm desperate to start something that will work and continue to work as he grows up. I constantly worry that I'm teaching him bad habits.

Have any of you tried it and how did you like it??? Couple of my friends tried it and loved it soo much that they don't even want to lend me their book.

I bought the book also and have not tried it - but will be soon!!! Let's keep in touch and see if we can help each other with this one. She was sleeping through the night - but hasn't been as of late......let me know what is working or is not working for you. Like you, I can't stant to listen to her cry.....keep in touch!

My wife and I tried the book couple of years ago, it worked fantastic. You have to follow all the steps and be CONSISTANT (like with everything else in child's life).
We initially tried the cry it out technique but found that every time our DD was sick or somewhere else, she would start waking up at night, and we were back at square one. But after the no-cry solution, change of surroundings didn't affect her sleeping pattern.
It was definitly a life saver, I just wish we didn't wait so long to use it, it would have saved us many MANY sleepless nights. Enjoy it.

Sue,

I'm so excited, I'd love to work on it together. I should recieve the book next week. I'll let you know as soon as I get it. Thanks Dana, I can't wait to have my son sleep through the night, wow what a concept. It's also supposed to help with napping too. My DS only naps for 30min, I want him to nap for 2hrs. So i can't wait.

Hello!

I have tried it with my DD since she was 6 months. Now she's 12.5 months. My impression is, if you want to succeed with this method, depending on the temperament of your child, you have to be extra patient. It took me 6 months and several tries to finally got her to just wake up once or twice at night. She used to wake up 6 to 7 times at night when I first started.

I don't believe in crying it out method because I know my own child. When she cries, usually it's because she's uncomfortable or needs comfort. And I know when she just cries for attention or just want to play. That only happens lately, and I usually leave her in the crib until she calms down a little. Usually that takes about 5 minutes. Then I would pick her up and hold her until she gets really drowsy. By then, she would not mind if I put her down in her crib. I would continue to pat her until she falls a sleep.

In the beginning, I wrote down everything. From the time I started the bedtime routine, to when she woke up in the morning. I put down the time she woke up in the middle of the night, how she woke me up, how long, how I put her back to sleep, and how long it took her to fall asleep. It helped me to know if she didn't have enough sleep at night. Because of how often she woke up, I slept in her room to make it easier to respond to her. But that's only a temporary arrangement. Once she slept longer stretches, I went back to my own bed.

Good luck. I think we should always believe a baby's cry, therefore I really like the no-cry sleep solution.
