Have any of you had your ears syringed & did it make you dizzy?Have any of you heard of/used Buccastem and did it help/make you worse?
Hi guys! Ok so I have been feeling bad lately disorientation/poorly-wise. Went to the docs - she said I have sinusitus (hopefully this explains some of the worse disorientation) and she said I have the worst case of ear wax she's ever seen Eek!! She said it is black and desperately needs syringing.
Here is my main question: Have any of you had your ears syringed and did it bring dizziness on? I am sure I heard somewhere it can actually cause vertigo so am understandably concerned.
2nd question: Well I was prescribed a weeks worth of Antibiotics (which make me feel yucky but I can put up with that if they make me feel better in the long run!) But I was also prescribed this thing called Buccastem which is meant to help dizziness/nausea. Have any of you used it before and did you find it helped?/Had any bad effects?
Thank you so much for your time, as ever any advice is much appreciated.
Sorry I haven't been on for a while. Hope you're all doing great!
Love and hugs Katkin xxx
P.S. CL if you read this I hope you are doing great! xx

The thought has just struck me.... in the caloric tests they put water in your ears don't they? and that does make you dizzy.... so surely ear syringing must too? :(:( (I refused the water in ear part of the caloric tests). At least when I had room spinning vertigo it would stop spinning if I sat up... the reason I refused that part of the caloric test was because he said I wouldn't be able to 'control' the type of vertigo it induced... that if I sat up it still wouldn't go away. Aargh!
Also... I heard that sometimes it can cause tinnitus. I think that might be quite rare though. Meh.

Hello Katkin, good to hear from you although sorry you are not doing too well. I think the ear syringing may make you feel bad momentarily but I wouldnt expect any longer term effects. I have had it done on a few occasions and its nice - good to get all the ear wax out and your ear will feel clean and unblocked. When I had the caloric test with the water I felt bad with the water in but I had my eyes closed, and once I opened my eyes I did start to feel better very quickly. You will be sat up and have your eyes open so hopefully you will not feel dizzy.
If you don't want to get your ears syringed you can use ear drops - it will take ages to clear your ears but at least that won't cause any problems. You can even use olive oil in your ears, just put a couple of drops in at night each night - this will help the wax to break up and gradually it will come out.
Hope it helps

Bless you for your message. I'm not bad...
The syringing may well cause temporary dizziness yeh as its a bit like the calorics like you say but I think it would be worth it - as clearing the wax could make things better?
Hopi ear candles are an alternative - used them recently...
Keep us informed xxx

Hi Tess :) Thank you for your reply. I do so want to have lovely clear ears! I am however really scared that the dizziness will come on and not go away, like I won't be able to 'control' it. (Not that I can control it as such but at least when I sat up it would settle down and not spin violently). I haven't had severe spinning for ages and soooo don't want it. (Especially an out of control one!)
I have been putting Olive oil in my ears every day and every night since visiting the dr but she didn't think it would shift much to be honest as it's so bad *sob*
CL I'm so glad you're not too bad. That's awesome :)
Ear candles... I have also been tempted to use them but I think my aunt said they actually caused her to have vertigo  (Think I've heard that about syringing too meep).
So temporary dizziness and very quickly... are we talking like 10 minutes?
And by dizziness are we talking ...a bit off balance... the room moving a bit... or full blown room spinning?
Sorry hehe it is probably different for every person anyway. *sigh*
Sooo not lookin' forward to it.
Also scared it might damage my balance permanently/cause hearing or some other kind of damage.
I probably sound like a total wimp but I expect you understand! It's just that my balance and ears feel very delicate/sensitive after all this balance malarchy!
Thanks very much for replies!

Sorry if this seems rude but I wanted to bump this topic up incase anyone else had any more info on their syringing experiences because the ear syringing is to take place on Wednesday and I'm scared! I also have sinusitus and tonsilitus so I hope I won't feel extra ill (dizzy) because of it.
I think that my extra disorientation was because of the sinusitus and being extra under the weather on top of the usual poop. I have been feeling a bit better (less disorientated) over the last few days compared to the previous few days. (Wahoo!) Hopefully the antibiotics are helping! I have another week of them to take now though because of the sudden tonsilitus lol. They make me feel a bit sick 'n stuff but if they get rid of yucky stuff and help me feel better then hoo rah! :)
P.S. ((CL)) I just saw that message you left and kept bumping up because you hadn't heard from me and were worried...awww that is so sweet thank you so much!!

No probs Katkin :)
In my opinion - I'd leave it til your bug is over - dont think it will help dizziness if you are already feeling under the weather. Simply postpone it...
And get better soon! xxx :)

Hi CL, thanks for kind words.
I did actually go (much pressure from family and friends even after I read your post of good advice to them) but when I told the nurse I was ill and on antibiotics she said she didn't want to do it because I might feel really rather dizzy and poorly. (Mucus on one side of the ear drum making it bulge and wax pressing on the other... jet of water against eardrum in mucus-bulging state - ewww - would feel rather horrible apparently).
I said to her "well that's what I kept saying to everyone, that I might feel more rotten and no-one listened!" She shot my mum a really dirty look haha poor Mum!
I have to go next week instead (Wednesday) as she (the nurse) is hoping I might be better by then. Looking at the state of my tonsils and judging by the feel of my sinuses (and how bleeh I feel) I don't think I will be though. Bah.
Hope you are feeling good :)
