I was schueduled to have an mri on my neck and found out that I need several hundred $ down.I can't afford that right now.Would'nt it be ok if he just did regular x-rays instead?

The test depends on what the problem (or suspected problem) is. X-rays are great for showing bone problems, such as fractures or dislocations, but they aren't very good for looking at soft tissue. To see soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, arteries, discs) you need a CT or MRI. If you aren't sure about why your doctor has ordered that particular test, ask about the reasons and if there are any alternatives.

Do you have health insurance? If you do and the location is still requiring money down, my advice would be to call your insurance provider. You could also ask your doctor to schedule it at the hospital rather than a provider who does only this type of service, because the hospital might not require the money down.

Good luck!
