I took my pen out of the refrigerator to use this morning and noticed solid crystals in it that looked more like clumps or bumpy scratches on the inside of the pen. It didn't freeze I'm sure so I don't know what happened. It didn't look like the tiny crystals that turned out to be some of the rubbing alcohol that got inside and mixed with the medication.
I called the Forteo line and they are sending me a voucher for a replacement pen. They will take the pen and research to find out a cause for this. Has anyone had this happen before?

The sad part is you will never hear from Eli Lilly what if anything they found "wrong" w/that Forteo pen, what caused the "crystals". Now we'll always be wondering. Don't you just hate that?? Curiosity killed the cat.

I have not had this happen, but I remember reading in some of the literature that you shouldn't use the pen if it did and that you should contact Eli Lilly which is what you did. So it seems that it may not be all that uncommon an occurrence.

Thanks for the important reminder to us all, taape, to check our pens before every use. I sometimes forget to check mine, especially if I'm particularly tired and just want to go to bed. :o
Do you have another pen that you can start using while waiting for your replacement voucher to come in?

I've got another pen to use. Plus Eli Lilly sent me a voucher card and my doctor wrote a one time prescription to pick it up at a local pharmacy. I don't know what happened with the other pen but maybe the turning mechanisms got out of wack and air and bacteria got in there or something.

Glad you didn't have to miss too many days of the Forteo. I want this stuff to work sooo much that I panic if I forget to take it even one night...
