why do i feel so much better without my meds have not taken any for about 2 weeks now and feel so good doc tells me i need them had heart attack last nov at 37 sometimes i have forgotten my meds and had a good day I just feel so good now without any meds i still take asprin every so often not every day because that even makes me sick on the tummy. I think it should be my choice has anybody else stopped there meds.
When i am on them i have no energy and lots of aches and pains
was on Pravachol,metoprolol,asprin
Maybe they had the side effect of depression??? I was on atenolol and didn't know what was going on for a long time, because I didn't know anything about depression. I talked to my cardio and he said it was common. He cut back my dose (and added a CCB) and I felt so much better. Here I am again wondering about the beta blocker I switched to just awhile ago. I realized I have been in a funk ever since the bb's, so maybe the obvious signs of depression left, but I am left with this? I just left a msg for cardio that I am stopping bb and going to take ccb. The only bad thing is the ccb won't take care of my NCS (syncope). *sigh* So, maybe if you try something other than a bb, if dr. okays that?
Oh, and do you use enteric coated aspirin?

It's probably the metoprolol making you feel like crap. Beta blockers can cause extreme fatigue and depression.

Hi guys thanks for the response yes i do use a coated asprin cartia it is called and it still makes me sick.
I just feel so good now with out my meds I am back to my old self and yes you are right about the bb when i see my cardio dr in dec i will tell him what i have done and if he still rares up he can try something else but no more bb or pravachol the pravachol i think was causing all the aches and pains.
I GOT MY LIFE BACK AT THE MOMENT IT IS SO COOL  :bouncing: :)

Hello shazz99, I can't add much to what has been said : beta blockers have those side-effects unfortunately. It is still important that you take the aspirin - I'm surprised the Cartia does'nt work for you.Do you take the aspirin with meals ? Anyway, I hope you can work out something with your doctor about your medication, because I think it is important that you take it in regard to your heart problems. But you have every right to feel that the side-effects are not worth suffering, even if not taking the medication increases your chance of an adverse cardiovascular "event".Remember that the body can adapt, and side-effects tend (in general) to lessen over a period of time.It is your choice of course, but please give it some longer-term thinking. All the best.

Hi Excelsoir
This has not being a easy choice but it has to happen I have a lot of reactions to a lot of drugs and the asprin is taken with food I am 38 years of age not overweight my heart disease comes from family geans I am just one of the unlucky family members to get it so young I see that you are from australia as well. I will tell my cardio dr if he can offer me something with less side affects ok i will take it but the bb does cause depression i just cant have that raising 5 children the pravchol causing a lot of aches and pains in the chest area and i dont need that hey but i will take another chol lowering drug if need be but i dont have chol problems.
I do Thank god that i am still here to see my children grow up but a dont want to be a depressed mum i want to be a happy mum and bb wont let me be a happy mum hey.
