View Full Version : Tendon problems after fusion

Hello,

It's been a little while since I've posted... but I do check in to see how my 'Fusion Buddies' are doing!

I have a strange problem... I had a fusion on my left foot (big toe joint) late last February. In June, my right big toe joint was fused and while I was on crutches, I smacked my first fusion really hard on a brick step. My big toe was sore for a while after that but I thought it healed. Well, the area where the big toe and 2nd toe meet has been REALLY sore again. My doc (orthopedic specialist) said it was a soft tissue injury (not a bone injury) but didn't really offer any advise other than 'give it a little more time' -- well, it's been 3 months now and I think that's enough time!

It seems like the tendons/ligaments on both sides of the big toe get really tight. I try to massage them and it seems to help but as soon as I do much walking (or anything) they tighten up/hurt again.

Is this a normal part of recovering from a big toe fusion?

I experience this in my right foot too but to a lesser degree.

Any help/advise/words of support would be MOST appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

~Heather

P.S. I still plan to post my "Fusion Song" but I wanted to wait and post it as a 'celebration' of finally being recovered... this is taking a little longer than I thought it would!
