View Full Version : Lower back and leg problems?

I have been experiencing low back pain, i have a hollow back, for a few months now.
I also started to get pains in my legs. These were pains in the calf and burning sensation up the backs of both legs. It seemed worse after prolonged sitting at my desk at work.I saw my chiro and she said it could have been caused by my back. I saw her a handful of times and it seemed better. Now it has flared up again.
My query is could this really be caused by my back or should I be looking to another board for an answer?
My symptoms are (in order that they appeared):

Small areas of pain in both calves
Burning sensation radiating from my calves up the backs omy legs, gradually getting higher.
Burning feeling now gone
calve muscles feel like they are 'loose' when I walk!
small muscle/nerve twitches in my calves and thighs
NO weakness
Calves hurt more after sitting or walking or climbing stairs etc
Do bear in mind I am not that fit!!

thanks

This sure sounds like a back problem to me and I would by pass the chiro. until getting more answers and at least having a MRI done, it sounds like the symptoms I had and have mine started as nerve impingement and due to not being properly cared for is now permenant nerve damage..
The sooner you seek medical advice the better.

It sounds like back trouble to me, too. I would suggest you see a spine specialist such as an orthopedic spine spec. and have an MRI done to try and locate the source of your pain. I would agree that you should stay away from the chiro for now. Unknowingly, they can cause more damage if you happen to have a bulging or herniated disc.

Ditto! I would highly recocmend that you see a spine specialist, too, before going back to the Chiro. Only because, until you know what is wrong, you could make things worse. I have back problems and the pain is down the fronts of my calves, the backs, sides and fronts of legs/thighs. If you have nerve damage, and dont do anything about it, you may end up w/permanant damage.

Keep us posted,

The only thing that I question if that you say the burning runs up your legs. Usually back problems create pain that runs down the leg not up.

I think that you need to see a general physician and have an examination to rule out other possible causes for your symptoms like neuropathy or phlebitis. Don't self diagnose. Please get to a family doctor to sort things out and determine what kind of referral you require if any.
