View Full Version : Wisdom tooth extraction

Hi http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
The time is comming when I will get my last wisdom tooth out.
I got three of them out last year around this time, I waited on this last one because it's impacted but my oral surgeon was concerned on how close the tooth was to the nerve. He says its a good possibility I could get nerve damage, meaning possible permenent or temporary loss of feeling in parts of my face, etc.
I am nervous of the anesthesia as well. Last time I woke up crying and feeling very lost.
I am now on thyroid medication but am not at the levels I should be yet, so I am concerned about that as well. I am such a worry wart.
I know I cant eat after midnight the night before, but before that (like dinner time) I was told to eat light. What exactly should I eat (or avoid eating) the night before the extraction?
Still nervous.
Thank you for any help or suggestions http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Take care,
Lori

lori, i remember your story from the first wisdom teeth surgery.. im not sure if u remember me, i had my surgery right after you.. we both cried after the anesthesia, and my doctor told me if usually happens to women.. and so what, how bad was it really?? we lived thru it didnt we? we thought it would be way way worse but it wasnt.. u can eat anything before midnight.. just dont eat after it.. not even a drink of water.. u know whats funny? my other wisdoms are hurting right now!! lolol!! i need to get them out soon.. O WELL. its not the end of the world.. and u have to remember if u have questions dont hesitate to ask ur oral surgeon.. just go there and get it over with.. i really doubt the nerve damage will happen.. i had that risk also, but the doctors always have to tell us that just in case.. it usually doesnt happen.. i didnt even get a dry socket.. i lost 6 pounds!! in only 6 days, on the 6th day i got my stitches out and gained those 6 pounds back in 5 minutes!! u will remember everything u did from the first surgery..

we are pros at this!!!!

Hey Kerry http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks for replying!
Yeah, I do remember you! I guess the anesthesia isnt too much of a concern, we DID live through it last time. My thyroid prob hopefully wont affect it any.
As far as the nerve damage goes, the oral surgeon thinks he might not even take the tooth out at all because of the hiigh risk of damage, but we'll see.
You're right, it WAS better than I thought it was going to be last time, and I will remember everything (like how I lived on pudding and mashed potatoes for EVER *laugh*)
When are you getting the rest of yours out? If they are hurting dont hesitate. I got to the point last year that the top two of my wisdoms were ROTTING (because I couldnt get my tooth brush that far back and food was getting stuck in there). They hurt every time I opened my mouth. They felt a LOT better AFTER I got them out *laugh*.
Only a month to go until the extraction for me now! Wish me luck! Especially about the nerve damage. I'll let you know how it goes http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks again,
Lori
