The probiotics that I like and use -- also have found effective are Pearls, Culturelle, PB-8. Kyodophilus9, and L. Reuteri---
There are many on the market that work-- Some are used to re-colonize your intestines-- some for the small intestines (even different parts) and some for the large intestines and some just pass through and help with digestion.

During your life it is not un-usual to have the friendly flora throughout your entire system to get messed up and completely out of balance-- with antibiotics, pestacides, herbacides, too much spices, too much salt or sugar, even alcohol and all sorts of medication!!!

Yogurt is good --- some have 4 to 8 additional cultures added to the 2 that it takes to make yogurt. Also 4 to 8 ozs. of Kefir daily is very good that is just loaded with friendly cultures that has been used for about 1600 years~~

It is not easy to re-establish a good well functioning digestive tract-- I have not found Medical Professionals alot of help.

Thank you Harry, I knew you would have some good info. I came across one of your posts on another forum, but was unable to find it again. Thanks again, there is so much to learn in the world of probiotics. Sereena

I am trying to do some comparisons and have found that HMF probiotics contain up to 30 billion CFU, which seems much higher than other products. Sereena

Garden of Life makes a wonderful probiotic but it isn't cheap! If I had Crohn's disease I'd definitely buy it. I just keep a bottle of a cheaper brand in the fridge to take on occasion.

I try to find a probiotic with a high "CFU", so far the highest I have found is HMF by Genestra/Rockwell. Their products go up to as high as 30 billion CFU. I know there are also different strains, but I'm not sure how to know which strain you need for different conditions. Sereena

Sereena,

The number of Colony Forming Units (CFU) is not as important as selecting the correct probiotic supplement to treat a condition or problem.

As you may know Probiotics may act on your system to help --- diarrhea, allergies, anti-microbial, anti-oxidants, anti-cancer and your immune system.

I suggest that you find a Doctor that uses probiotics to treat various conditions or problems.

Harry

Progastrim....interesting, is this a prescription probiotic? Or did the dr. give you samples? I've never heard of a prescription probiotic. Thanks, Sereena
