View Full Version : Pain and infection after extraction

I just had 2 teeth extracted on my upper right side of my mouth (I already had my wisdom teeth pulled several years ago), this is after they got really infected and I was in so much pain I went to the emergency room, I took a 10-day course of penicillin along with some painkillers. By the time I had the teeth pulled the infection was probably about 70% gone. My dentist is 200 miles away from us now, we just moved, and I traveled to see him last week for the extraction, it wasnt till I returned home that I realized the prescription he had given me for more antibiotics and painkillers was not among the paperwork his office had given me. They told me it was in there and I usually ALWAYS check, but of course the one time I didnt it wasnt there. UGH! I didnt really have any pain at that point and there were no signs of infection till this last friday night (the extraction was 2 days prior, on Wednesday) when it started getting sore and a little hard to swallow. Saturday, more of the same. Sunday, I couldn't get out of bed and the pain was unbearable. I couldnt even go to the ER because I was in so much pain. A friend of mine gave me a bottle of Keflex and some Ibuprofen and percosets, all except the Keflex Ive already gone through and it got so much better (pain-wise, anyway) that I was able to eat a little soup last night. The infection does not seem to have gone down at all, though. The right of the roof of my mouth is so totally distorted from the swelling I feel like the pressure alone is enough to kill me, my throat is the same, my right gland is swollen and I cant even hardly swallow the spit in my own mouth! My right ear also feels like the infection has spread there, along with the bone in my face right below my right eye and even the right side of the bone in my nose. I went and bought some Ibuprofen this morning and took 800 mg, that seems to really help alot. I know everyone will say go to the doctor, and as soon as I can find a sitter or his dad gets off work I will, but till then can someone tell me what this sounds like? Just a normal infection or something worse? Has anyone else gone through this, and if so, what helped?

Thanks for your time, sorry so long,

Rio
