I had a sleep study go horribly wrong recently. I slept for half an hour and was totally out of my mind by morning. My sleep is bad, but not usually that bad. Doc is trying to get me to sign up for a study again, but I feel that the anxiety of doing it again will produce the same results. Any suggestions or advice?

I would encourage you to try again. Adequate treatment for sleep disorders can change your life - it did mine. But if you don't think you can do it, you might want to consider a home sleep study. Some labs can give you equipment to take home and use at night in your own bed. The results are not as definitive, and the study is not as complete as those done in a lab. So depending on what your doctor is looking for, a home study might not be an option for you. But it is something to think about.

Good luck.

Absolutely. If your sleep is still bad, it's in your best health/interest to participate - and learn to improve - your wellness. Be patient with yourself and you will do great! :)

Very best,

Thanks for the encouragement. I actually went back and did it this weekend. I think it wasn't as hard because I knew what to expect this time and I also was able to take some medication (they didn't want me to take anything last time). I got about four hours of sleep so I think that will be enough information for the doctor to make a diagnosis? Now I just have to wait for the results. I'm really hoping it's not apnea--those masks look pretty claustrophic. Anyone have any experience with them just in case?

I am about to go do a sleep study and am really dreading having to stay overnight (if that is what they want me to do, which I imagine it will be) because I just can NOT stay in a strange room all night and not sleep! I imagine you can't read of anything?? I would lose my mind....
