My doctor told me not to run for atleast a couple of months, until I get my asthma under control. As a former competitive runner, I think this may be a little extreme. I'm out of shape and I feel terrible; all I want to do is run. I'm taking the medication prescribed to me. My lungs feel OK. Not great, but okay. Um my peak flow is down to 400 from 550...
I guess the point is, I've had bronchitis 6 times in the past 9 months. I think maybe slowly getting more "in shape" might help. Is anybody familiar with this? Or maybe knows what would be best to do? Should I really listen to the doctor? Or is there a way to slowly build up my stamina without injuring my lungs?
Any input would be much appreciated.

Jill: I'm with you...I don't understand that. I have asthma and I jog. You'll need to do 2 puffs of your albuterol 15-20 minutes before you jog. And it has helped my lung function so much! Good luck!

Ditto...Albuterol before your exercise! Also, work into it slowly and pace yourself...walk first, then jog, then eventually work up to running. I think you should ask your doctor why he said don't run, though. Maybe if you suggest workign up to running - walking, jogging, then running - he or she will be OK with it! :)
