My mom is 53 years old and going through a really rough time. Life hasn't been easy, me and my brother are no angels, and my parent's marriage isn't heaven either - but then again, whose is?

Anyway, she's going through menopause now, and to make a bad situation worse, she can't get more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep at night. She's exercising, she's not napping (she can't fall aleep during daytime to make up for the lost nightsleep either), trying to balance her diet, tranquilizers and so on.

But still - the good nights are no more. Naturally this makes her more irritable, restless and easily upset. But I think and hope that if she could get some good sleep - everything else would seem easier too.

Any good advise?

Is there some reason she doesn't want to do hormone replacement therapy? If so, then I would suggest a couple of benedryl at bedtime. That's the sleep ingredient in
Tylenol PM and other such OTC sleep aids. She evidently doesn't need the Tylenol so just the benedryl should work fine.
