After I take turmeric, I get really bad heartburn for about an hour. I am not a person who is prone to heartburn either. I take it with a full glass of water and after I eat breakfast too. What's the deal? I don't want to stop taking it because it has such wonderful health benefits, but at the same time, it's like I just swallowed a bunch of hot peppers about two minutes after I swallow the pill which isin't very pleasant! Anyone else experience this? What can I do?

Cassie,
Straight powdered turmeric can be pretty strong. It's a lot easier to take if you put it into foods -- in rice, in saucy things, on meats, in salad dressings, in Indian-flavored dishes, etc. It's considered very healthy for you in India, where they consume a lot of it everyday -- BUT they use in IN dishes, not straight!

I am using it for it's anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine, high antioxidant and cancer preventative properties.
Thanks for the advice, maybe instead of taking it in straight pill form I will start trying to find ways to incorporate it into cooking :)
