hey, just dropping a line here to see if anyone has heard, or has known anybody who benefited from doing Chinese herbal medicine with Multiple Schlorosis? because lately i've read a ton about how it helps a lot, possibly more than western medicine, but the thing is u have to keep up the treatment, and its more than just popping a pill.. ie, herbal medcicine (a lot of capsules every day), acupuncture, dramatic diet change, etc. does anybody have any info on this?

thanks

A friend of mine used to have a clinic that did a lot of alternative therapies with MS - Acupuncture, very clean organic diet (mostly raw foods and juices), supplements, energy work (Reiki), lots of stress reduction and counseling, visualization and meditation, supplements... the whole person maximum deal. Sometimes the results were spectacular.

Don't duck the psychotherapy - until a few years ago, a good counselor was the only "treatment" for MS that prolonged remissions in the episodic form of the disease. The usual explanation was the impact of or connection to stress and the immune system.

I dont know about Chinese medicine for MS, however i was reading a couple of yrs back on GNC'S magazine about these people with MS that went on a Paleo diet (no grains/dairy) good fats and lean meats that they put it in remission. Also lots of Evening Primrose oil.

Hi there . I'm new to this Natural Medicine post . tho have been on others .
I was diagnosed 16yrs ago with "possible MS".. which led me to search for mentors and answers .

Eventually discovered a wonderful guy  who lived 100 % macrobiotically , that is eating Japanese lifestyle , miso soup, & brown rice , not white , every morning , was yummy !.. all great recipes I learnt ..

I changed my diet and followed his teachings , leaving all western food alone , and the result within two months was amazing !.. people couldn't believe I had MS,

I also found a retired lecturer/ pathlogist at our local medical school , who taught me about the body , he told me to cut out ALL Saturated FATS , absolutely completely , and take the best Evening Primrose capsules , 9 per day , which i did , the money didn't matter , I wanted to get better !..

I lived macrobiotically for 9 months and all symptoms disappeared for 10 years ..
I wouldv'e continued , but my husband got upset eating the food , even tho he loved it , because he lost weight , he was trying to get his muscles pumped up .. haa haa , his legs were getting thinner !.. :D

I lost weight of course , (I needed to ), cos of no junk food , but it was all worth it , ..

so , now 16years later , I've had 3 spinal operations , due to massive calcification compressing the spinal cord , which looked as if it was MS because of the subsequent numbness , etc , but it wasn't at that stage ;

but just recently the first ever MS plaque was discovered on my cord by an MRI Scan , so i have TWO things wrong with me !..

.. I am fine , but I know i should be back to eating japanese way, am thinking seriously about it ;

it's a lot of dedication , i will have to gear my head up to do it again, but i cannot express my admiration for the Macrobiotic food .
find a genuine teacher of Macrobiotics , not a charlatan type person , as it won't work if not taught correctly .

I hope this wee bit I've added on to this post might tweak someone 's interest or help give them another idea about an alternative style diet?.. Kind regards Belle :)

Thanks for the post belle0050. I recently got a book concerning the Macrobiotic diet. I forget the name of the book, but I think it's written by one of pioneers in the Macrobiotic way of eating. I think it sounds like it would definitely be a good idea for you to get back to that way of eating, since it helped you so much.

May I ask, when you started to go off of the Macrobiotic way of eating, did you start eating whatever you wanted? Or were you still eating pretty healthy, just not the Macrobiotic way?

 hello there

Thank you for your interest in the Macrobiotic Diet I mentioned. :)

the problem was , that I was found to have massive calcification compressing my spinal cord , on the Thorasic 8 and 9 area , was very rare , so had to have 3 massive operations over 3 years .
2000 -2002 , eventually ended up not being able to walk , firstly on crutches ,
now in a wheelchair permanently , but due to the spinal op damage am in terrific neuropathic pain almost everyday , on special painlkillers forever ..

This put paid to my being able to cook macrobiotically , being in hospital so many times , they don't cook this type of food and no one else could do this cooking home here for me , :nono:

my kids ( not at home now ) we'ren't into the food , and to lift heavy things , and just twist around , in the kitchen doing a lot of cooking , which is involved with M/Diet , even chopping veges on the board hurts my spine /back so bad !..

this sounds hard to believe , but just sitting here at my computer , I have to be on neuropathic p/killers everynight for bed.

I would love to find the energy , and inclination to go back to eating the Japanese way , it is so amazing ..
I can make sushi , so enjoy some now and again , and other simple recipes , so i do have easy redipe foods ,

but you see , my husband has to go buy the groceries after work , he only gets what he thinks we need , like mainly bread
( which I now hate !! ), eaten so much over the last 2 years 'cos it was easy for lunches , I was at his mercy many times ,..

meat , veges , the usual food and rubbish , so it's very hard to order him to get special food .

if only I had a dedicated person to cook my meals the exact way ,I would do it in a flash !..

the MS isn't a problem , like I said , never worries me , hardly no symptoms showing up that I , or the specialist can blame 100% on MS...

.. a bulge just showed up in my recent MRI where the operation was done , same place 3 times , so we believe there is still scar tissue damage .. no MS plaques seen on the spinal cord .. this time .

I just get on best as possible , I have been referred to a Spinal Rehab so I hope that won't be too long away.
Hope to maybe get good ideas on coping and cooking in the kitchen !!...

Thanks once again for your interest , ;)
I hope someone else has benefitted from my post too ?.. Belle
