I've had high cholesterol for a few years now. I took Lipitor 40mg last year for about 4 months. I had so many side effects that frankly I just stopped taking it. I just read a book about holistic medicine and natural cures etc. In it they say its not the total cholesterol that's bad but how it sticks to your arteries. I just saw a holistic dr last week. He did not address the cholesterol issue yet because I have asthma and he wants to deal with that first. I also have high blood pressure. He seems to think that if we can find my asthma trigger that I can get off my asthma meds, thereby reducing my blood pressure (because the meds drive it up). And then we can deal with the other things. He did tell me to try 3000mg of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. I am taking a supplement that says 500 mg total epa and dha. On the back the ingredients are 1100mg fish body oils, 300mg EPA, and 200mg DHA. I am taking 3 of these per day. I'm not sure if I should up it to 6 pills per day.
I would just like some feedback. I really do not want to take a cholesterol pill because it seems like there are so many side effects and many of them can actually cause heart attacks. I am a 35 year old female by the way.

Well those numbers seem to be pretty high.
All I can say is my numbers were about like yours and by taking a low dose Vytorin (sp?) my numbers were cut by about two thirds.
Good luck.

Those are very poor #s..pure and simple.
I would suggest MY regimen if you can't accomplish your goals with diet and exercise. Ask your Dr if you can try 10 Mg CRESTOR with 10 Mg Zetia (I actually take 5 Zetia). This will expose you to FAR LESS statin (Zetia isn't a statin). If he won't do it...find another Dr who will.
Good Luck

We didn't understand the m.d./holestic-homeopathic/alternative medicine dotor my mother had until he gave us a book on the subject. They only deal with one thing at a time. Also, they will prescribe Prescriptions that cause the problem that you are having to treat that problem. It was very interesting to learn how they do treat. Your ratio isn't bad.

I have been toying with seeing a holistic doc myself. I bought 2 books Stop Inflammation Now and Natural Cures they don't want you to know about. Both really great books with great insight as to why we are sick in America. I changed my way of eating and upped my excercise and I feel tremendous. The book speaks about the real deal about cholesterol. It's all about the arteries and the foods and toxins that cause them to be inflammed and acidic. I have not had a repeat blood work done yet my appointment is the end of Nov but I am anxious to see if my new life style change has worked...Good luck, Lisa

Moxie, Even if your blood tests don't change, you have something much more important. You feel tremendous. Cholesterol readings are only numbers. The real test is how is your body responding.
