An AP news item on this topic came out on September 28, but I just came across it now. It doesn't appear to have been discussed on this board before. In general, this is a class action suit by two consumer groups which allege that Pfizer marketed Lipitor to reduce cholesterol in patient groups not covered in the clinical trials, namely women and people over age 65 who did not have heart disease or diabetes. Pfizer indicates that they have FDA approval to market Lipitor to such groups if they have other risks.

I can't link to the actual article, but you might want to look it up for more details.

There was reference in the article to a study of 2000 women which concluded that those taking Lipitor developed 10 percent more heart attacks than those taking a placebo. Does anyone know to what study that might refer?

Here's a pretty good explanation of the suit:

Well I read the entire thing, and one thing that stuck out is what we discussed many times...Drugs should NOT be advertised on tv. JMHO

Good article...... :)

Thanks so much for providing this information. Shows you agin how secretive the drug industry is. Never even heard a mention of this before.

Lenin, all I was able to get when I used your link was a little red x. Is this the same article?

Uff..the 2 articles U posted are about the same as what Lenin posted. Think U got a red x due to the fact his link is in Adobe form. If U don't have Adobe Reader on your computer it won't work.

Well, that's weird. I do have Adobe Reader on my computer, but I can't access anything in that form from a link. I still don't understand why.

Hmmmm, that is strange, but half the time my computer does weird things too. For the last 3 days, I can't get the fool thing to stay in the standby mode??? I checked for any viruses 4 times, did all the checks I can think of and still can't figure it out. My nephew builds computers, so I emailed him and he has NO idea what is wrong, only that it might be a hardware problem, whatever that is. LOL Oh well, sooner or later it will either fix itself, or I will find out what the problem is, but for now, it is making me NUTS!!!

I read the article that Lenin posted and your 2, and they are basically the same. In plain English, Pfizer is misleading the public as well as the drs. with false ads and their claims about their product being sooooo helpful on reducing any heart attacks. It also said people have been bugging their drs. to prescribe the meds. even though they really don't need them because they see it on tv. Of course any good dr. would say NO and explain why, but the article said drs. are so busy they just do it to probably make the person feel like they are going to avoid a heart attack by taking Lipitor. Oh yes, it did say they pressure drs. to use their product also by sending reps. with misleading info. to a drs. office. U get the idea, same ole, same ole.

Have a good one, and TTYL......

Uff da,

All three links work for me (and all are in .php)...BUT only one seems to open in Adobe.
Anyhoo,
Think of these PHP-enabled files as simple HTML files with a whole new family of magical tags that let you do all sorts of things. Most web hosts offer PHP support, but if your host does not, consider reading the PHP Links section for resources on finding PHP enabled web hosts.

Perhaps that quote deals with the specific issue. Perhaps also a visit to the Adobe site to see if you have the newest version of the reader? The ones you CANNOT get seem pretty much the same thing but in a more HTML'ey form...not Adobe.

Okay, thanks Lenin. I went directly to the Adobe site and updated the Reader, and I can get it now. I didn't want to update before because the way the update message came up, I would have been forced to accept the Yah-know-what toolbar, too, and I didn't want it. But directly from the Adobe site, I could uncheck that. Anyway, problem solved.
