hi, other than bandaging my fingers up permenantly are there any ways people have used to get over this very bad habit? at the moment i constantly seem to have plasters where I've made myself bleed and yet I can't make myself stop. I had a music recital a while ago and my nails stopped me playing properly.
please please please has anyone got any ideas, otherwise i seriously am going to have to keep them covered for all eternity.

Nail biters are on a quest for order. when you bite you rnails, you create even more disorder so you have to bite even more. Do yourself a favor and book a series of weekly manicure appointments to get the skin and nails cleaned up and remove all the loose skin and ragged nail. After a few weeks, the technician should be able to apply very short enhancements. Artificial nails create almost instant order.

You might also think about all the germs that are on your hands at any given time during the day. For instance, you go to the bathroom and then wash your hands; you open the bathroom door and you instantly have germs on your hands. You stick your hands in your mouth and transfer all those germs. Not a very healthy thought is it?

I could never bite my nails because of all the germs and such that is under them, thinking about that put me off so much that I could never bite them.

Now on a more personal note...were you breast fed as a baby and if so were you weaned to early? Your mom had to go back to work or some other reason that you had to stop before you were ready? The reason that I ask is because Freud believed that if you were weaned to early then you would have an oral fixation. Which means that you would bite our nails, smoke, chew on things anything that keeps your mouth busy. Just a thought and something that you can look into.

Solar Oil is a GREAT product for the skin and nails and I have recommended it on this board for almost two years now. It DOES work if you apply it at least twice daily and massage into the skin and nails. Always apply at night before bed andn allow it to soak in. I usually apply mine and just let it soak in by itself before bedtime.
