View Full Version : Sinus Infections Contagious?

I do my best to keep DS away from people who are sick. People who say they're getting over a cold, flu, strep... I just worry 'cuz my FIL has chronic sinus infections and is always coughing, sneezing and using a hanky -- worry that he'll spread his germs to ds.

I feel kinda bad that maybe I'm overreacting, but the other day FIL coughed and sneezed and then tried to hand something to DS to eat. I freaked and asked him not to touch his food after he just coughed into his hand. I've already gotten after him because he's obsessed with wiping food off of his face when he's eating and tries to use his napkin at meals. I realize that this is his grandfather and that he's going to spend time with him, give him hugs and kisses... I'm really torn about this -- don't want to offend, but don't want to risk ds's health.

Maybe I'm being a fanatic, but whenever I cough, sneeze, wipe my nose, I go wash my hands or use antibacterial foam.

Sinus infections are caused by bacteria, not viruses, so they are not contagious. :)
