Hey everyone I was wondering if someone could shed some light for me. I have been feeling kind of sick recently (sore throat swollen lymph nodes tired) i went to the doctor and he said he thinks i have mono or strep throat. The blood tests are not back yet but i am also about 2 weeks late on my period. i have been having sex, so pregnancy is possible, however i took an at home test that proved negative. I may have taken the test too soon (4 days after the missed period) and i plan to repeat it soon. My question is this... if i do have mono or strep throat, is it possible that this is the reason for my missed period?

Yes it is possible for illness to delay a period or make you miss a period but I'm really not sure. I would do another pregnancy test in a weeks time or get a blood pregnancy test off your doctor to find out for sure.

Meanwhile drink plenty and keep your fluid intake up. Mono seriously sucks. Good luck to ya. :)

my health professor says that anything and everything can cause your period to be irregular. medications, a cold, allergies, a change in exercise routine, basically anything. so it's entirely possible for mono or strep throat to cause you to miss a period. i would go back to the doctor though, just to find out for sure what it is.

Mono really stinks. I have had it, and so has my daughter (when she was 2) and if you have it, please be sure to do two things: sleep and eat! Sleep whenever you are tired and even without appetite, be sure to eat. This helped my daughter immensely. I let her sleep whenever she wanted (meant not going by a schedule but it worked wonders for her) and they gave her meds to up her appetite. She was feeling better in a few days. She was sick for months! Take good care of yourself. It is likely that your period is out of wack due to your illness, but it is always a good idea to test. Take another test in a week or so to ease your mind. I know with my 2nd child, my first preg. test came up negative but the next one was positive. You could be pregnant, with not enough hormones yet to produce a positive result. But I think you are probably just off from being ill.
