painful

I went to the dentist a year ago, he pulled all my bottom teeth except the eight in front and fitted me for a partial. I have never been able to wear the partial because of the pain on my left side and most
definetly I could not chew with it. I went back to the dentist who decided to do a new partial. Today
he did the impression. The pain on lower left side where there is no teeth was so serve that I was in tears. Even a hour later my ear was aching. Any
thoughts?

Post this on the TMJ board! You'll get good info there. TMJ stands for Temporo Mandibular Joint, which is basically your jaw joint. Poor occlusion (bad bite, which it sounds like your partial is causing you) can aggravate your TMJ.

Why did you have the original teeth pulled? This could be where the problem lies.

YEP! Sorry to say but that definately sounds like TMJ!
You need to speak w/your dentist & possibly try out the new partial & see if that helps any.....if the old partial was bad enough it could have made your jaw set crooked in the joint long enough that it did some damge there & when pressure was applied to that area in order to get a new impression I would have to believe it was a dsfinate joint problem going on there! Ibuprofin is good for the joint pain & you can check out the TMJ site they have some exersises on there that are very helpful! Heat also works well for the pain! 20 minutes on & 20 minutes off! Also ask about a bite splint! They work wonders for TMJ!
Good luck & take care!

Hello all,
Nope this is not TMJ, when the pain finally got better
I could feel what felt like the edge of a tooth or sharp bone under the gum, boy was it sore. I have contacted an oral
surgeon. I will let you know.

Nope this is not TMJ. After the pain was better, I
checked where the gum was still really sore, it felt
like part of a tooth or a bone was just below the gum
line and boy was it really really sore, I have an appointment with a oral surgeon Monday, will let you know.

If the pain is not in your jaw, then why is the topic of your post "jaw"? Your jaw IS your TMJ.

The reason I posted this as jaw, was that the pain felt as if it was in my jaw more than my mouth. The reason for this feeling is the soreness is in the back
of my mouth around where a wisdom tooth might be at the bone.

I just got back from the oral surgery. He has located the problem and I will have surgery in two days. The problem is that the bone on both side of my mouth have
pieces of the teeth left. The one causing the pain in
my jaw area is the back at the wisdom tooth area. I am
so glad to know what is happening. Yes he told me this
on a the back can cause this type of pain. He could
feel it as well as in other areas that were just causing moderate pain.
