:confused:
Hello,
My doctor has been monitoring my Trig levels and he had me on Crestor before. He changed me to TRICOR. My levels are around 240. What can I expect from this? Is this considered high? he asked me if anyone is diabetic in my family and the answer is NO. I weigh 190 no other health problems. can anyone shed any insight?
thank you

Generally, anything starting at 150. But it really depends on the laboratory that's involved in determining your levels - use their "reference range" to determine what's normal for you and what's not.
Typically,
50 - 149 = normal
150 - 199 = borderline high
200 - 499 = high
>= 500 = very high
I think the reason why your doctor is concerned about you being diabetic is because of the correlation between insulin resistance and high triglyceride levels. I have high triglycerides (>300) whenever my diet consists of lots of sweets. Whenever I back off the sweets, the triglycerides drop dramatically (<150). And it's not only sweets, but any high-carb foods (white breads, rice and pasta, potatoes, etc.).
Certain people, like me, are sensitive to high-carb diets. Try laying off the high-carb foods to determine if that makes a difference in your numbers.
Also, my triglycerides correlate directly to my HDL levels: the higher my trigs., the lower my HDL; the lower my trigs., the higher my HDL respectively.

I have not been to the dr in a while. But here is the lowdown...
I am 37 6'0 260 lbs..about 26 %BF.
I don't look 260 but I am... About 3 years ago I applied for insurance... The insurance company did a blood work and my numbrs were WAY up..off the charts... I attributed that to eating before and not fasting before blood work. So I went to my Dr. to take a second blood work and it was worse. My total cholestrol was around 450 and my good cholestrol was around 35. My triglycerides were an astonshing 1800!! The dr. never heard of this number being that high and was ready to admit me to a hosptial. He gave me a script for not sure about mg I believ 300mg of lopid. 2x day. I went to see him in three months and my tris were down to 800. My bp never was a problem and I never changed my diet(which consisted of fast foods and other crappy stuff). I stuck with the lopid for another 2 months before stopping it myself and then starting to workout. I went to the gym 5 days a weeks and ate healthy. My next visit my tris were down to 450 and my good cholestreol was up to 45. My total was 310.. still not good but better then starting off......I then started to like an idiot take supplements, creatine, protein shakes , zma, and andro gel... even though I lost 40 pounds and put on 5 pounds of muscle and was running 5ks about 1 every 2 months my tris shot up to 1100 and total went to 400....All this time I felt great bp is normal and all other functions such as liver and glucose is normal....So what gives,,, could it be the supplements or just heditary...none of my family has any of these problems, can I be the first one???

Wow, 1800 TG is certainly high. What's your diet like? A quick way to reduce TG is to: decrease alcohol, high-fat foods, high-varb foods, sweets, etc.
The highest my TG has ever been is 650. And I don't have a heritable hyperlipidemia problem/diagnosis. With diet alone, I've achieved 131.
1800 may cause pancreatitis. I would take this seriously if I were you :eek:
