Welcome to the boards
What you described sounds so much like my situation. Are you undergoing any treatment, therapy or medication? Over the years, I've been up and down. I'm back on medication now after I really hit bottom after having had many minor depressive episodes. There are still good days and bad days, but finding this board has been really helpful. There are so many people here who understand what we are going through and everyone is very supportive.
I don't have any friends either and the only people I talk to is my family. We live in different states so we only talk to each other by telephone a couple of times a month. I also want to get rid of some excess weight. My husband and I are looking into some type of exercise program for individuals who need to get back in shape. I'm not expecting to run any marathons or bike tours, but we both want to feel better and loose some weight.
I found that trying to maintain some type of schedule and forcing myself to get out has helped me. It's alot easier to just hang around the house and make excuses not to go out, but I know that's not the best thing for me. Of course it's easier said than done, that's why I have to really force myself some days.
What sort of activities or hobbies did you used to enjoy? Maybe you and your husband could find a new interest? I've always enjoyed music and now that I have more time I'm trying to learn how to play some new instruments. It can be frustrating because I want to skip the learning part and go right into playing but it helps to keep me busy. :)
Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Hi jah! I can relate to what you have written! I agree with MarciaD, that it is a great idea to try to remember what you used to enjoy doing..and then make it a goal to do whatever it is. OR! you can make a list of things that you have never done that you would like to try...making the list itself can raise your spirits and plant the seed for something new and engaging. I think you should do it almost as stream of consciousness thinking and write down anything no matter how bizarre..skydiving! scubadiving! traveling to the Mayan ruins etc etc--if you just write and write you will spark ideas and it will put you into a more optimistic mode. You may even come up with some doable things on the list.
I also know what you mean about having another depressed person around..it all can become an endless loop! Do you have one old girlfriend that you could meet for lunch? if not--you can always stop in here (with us) we'll listen to you!
