HI Am new to this site. i want to know if there is anyone out there that has a rare antibiotic allergy. when i say rare according to my doctor i am one of three in the histroy of medicine. ( surely that cant be true) I am allergic to so many that i wont name them all but there are loads. One in particular has caused me the biggest problem. Metronidazole. i reacted to it last year and ended up in intensive care and then in hospital for eight days i was seriously ill. not the usual swelling but Toxic shock as in blood poisoning. apparently i have a unique body make up that means my body stores the drug and allows it to build up in my body until i collapsed it attacked my nervous system so badly that i disco danced in stead of walked for a month i had seizures where i would go freezing fade and be a bit like the light is on but no one is home. and then i would convulse. this lasted a while. after that i suffered from acute fatique and over tired ness could bring on an attack although i learned to control them. i was ill for eighteen months. yes 18. and finally felt well for a whole 6 months. however now apparetnly i have intracranial hypertension which my doctors are looking into i am due into hospital next week for a lumbar punch etc. anyway i wouldnt have written all this except i was prescribed acetadazolmide for my problem i have taken one and after about 14 hours i felt the familiar signs of a reaction I am in trouble i need this drug yes i could try and get back to the neuro for some thing else but it will take time and could ultimately result in the same situation. any ideas or does any of this sound familiar to anyone else AM DESPERATE THANX FOR READING TINAX
