Does anybody know what is normal? Should you be able to fall asleep within 15 minutes? 30 minutes? an hour? Sometimes, it takes me up to two hours to actually fall asleep. I may be relaxed and resting, but I am most certainly not asleep.

I go through bouts where it takes me an hour or two. I think its supposed to be like 20 minutes. It takes me, when I'm normal, about 30 minutes. My sis, it takes her less than 5 minutes...sometimes when he head hits the pillow shes out, she says...can u believe that?
Do you do anything to rest yourself before you try to sleep? Like watch some tv, read, pray...doing something for like 20 minutes b4 might help.

It usually takes me about 10-15 minutes. Sometimes if I've had a coffee late in the day, it may take me a bit longer, like 30-60 minutes. My ex was one of those guys that as soon as his head hit the pillow, he'd be out.

The time it takes to fall to sleep varies. We all know someone who's knocked out in 5 minutes. I envy them. If it's taking you 2 hours to go to sleep, you've got a sleep problem. I know, because I do too. What to do about it, I don't know. I'm not going to go to a doctor just to get drugged up and possibly addicted to medication. I do what alsaser suggested. I try to relax about an hour or so before I'm ready for bed. That means, get off the computer. Notorious for keeping me awake. Instead I'll watch some TV. That helps sometimes. Reading will do it too.

I read some information on "Sleep Hygiene". It said that if you can not fall asleep in 20 minutes then you need to get up and do something quiet til you get sleepy. Also, the article stated that if you get up to avoid bright light. Apparently, the bright light signals your brain that it is time to wake up. Oh yea, the article stressed that you need to leave your bedroom to do the "something quiet".

Hope this helps!

I used to have a lot of problems falling asleep and staying asleep, but now I have no problem sleeping at night... or in the day *lol* I'd say it takes me about 5-10 minutes or so. If I've got a lot on my mind perhaps a few minutes longer.
