I have bouts of itchiness that appear on my body and if I scratch it'll leave marks. I can take one pill of Claritin for hives relief and the itchiness won't reappear for another four-five days. Is this normal?

Could be. I looked up the drug information on this and it does say that this drug should not be taken for several days before allergy testing is done because it can interfere with tests. I know this doesn't directly have to do with what you have asked but what it does mean is that the drug is known to stay in the system for days so therefore it could help you for days if you are sensitive to medications. Many of the claritins are long acting now so they last a lot longer than they did previously. Claritin is just an antihistimine such as Benedryl.

Some people find Claritin works for them while some don't. So I guess you are lucky that you got something that works for a few days before you need it again. You say that you get marks when you scratch, are they the scratch marks when you scratch? It may or may not be dermatographism... a form of urticaria that you get and leaves the scratch marks on you. e.g. you take a pen and just draw a line, after awhile, a wheal-the shape of the line- will form... Hope this helps.
