Ever since i was 4 yrs old i knew that i was allergic to shellfish. I had a reaction to crab and shrimp. So ever since then i have avoided all shellfish including crawfish, oysters, and clams. Now i am 20 and i went and got an allergy test done for those specific food allergies. the Skin test shows that im still allergic to shrimp. So i did bloodwork to see if i was allergic to crab, shrimp, crawfish, oyster, scallops, lobster, and clams. The results show that i am only allergic to crab, shrimp, and lobster. They are unsure about scallops. My queston is, can i be allergic to only those few and not be allergic to crawfish? My family is from lousiana and i live in southeast texas. we have crawfish boils all the time and i anxious to eat them. Also, how accurate is the bloodtest? please if anyone can help me, let me know. thanks

Well, the bloodtest for food allergies is supposed to be fairly accurate. And it's an enzyme in the particular shellfish that is the allergen and it may not be present in crawfish. I just don;t know. You might want to research it more. And it owuld make sense that you wouldn't also be allergic to clams, oysters, mussels, etc as they are different.
