Hello-
Can anyone tell me what is the advantage of drinking lots of water when you are trying to lose weight? I've been told it helps flush out toxins from your body, but how does it help you lose actual pounds? I have been trying to drink more water because I know I am dehydrated, but I also wouldn't mind losing a few pounds from it. (not water retention lbs, actual fat pounds). Any thoughts?

Water itself will not do anything to actually lose Weight. Water is just a healthier choice regardless if you are trying to lose weight or not.

I see, it just seems that everything I read regarding dieting says drinks lots of water. I guess they mean as a healthier choice like you said (other than sugary drinks) and to help curb your appetite. I don't mind drinking water instead of my usual soda, but it never has helped me from being hungry. Have you found anything healthy to curb your appetite? I tried dried fruit and nuts but I started packing on the pounds.

The water is a great thing for the body it aids in getting rid of toxins and getting rid of toxins aids in losing weight. Water is instumental not only for flushing and nourishing the body, but also in keeping it hydrated and PH balanced. I'ts important to drink at least 8 full glasses of water per day. Also water that is purified through osmosis is better than spring. You would be surprised at the toxins in spring water and please never ever drink tap. Tap water has chlorine and chlorine by products all of which causes scarring of the arteries and most Tap water has flouride which is one of the most poisonous and disease causing agents you can put in your body...Lisa

Actually, that's not true. Water does help you lose fat, but in an indirect way. It has to do with the relationship between the kidneys and your liver. The kidneys are supposed to filter your blood while one of the functions of the liver is to burn fat. The problem is that the kidneys need water to function at their best. If you don't take in enough water throughout the day, the kidneys aren't as effective at filtering your blood. So what happens is that some of their workload is dumped onto the liver. But if the liver is busy helping the kidneys, it can't focus on one of its jobs, which is burning fat. So by drinking plenty of water, you'll help your kidneys do their job and therefore help your liver burn fat.
Plus, water is a great way to control your appetite. The next time you feel hungry, drink a glass of water and wait 10 minutes and then see if you still feel hungry. A lot of times, what we perceive as hunger is really just dehydration.

I increased my water this week too about 90 to 100oz a day and I increased my exercise and I lost 3 pounds! It helps me curve my hunger, makes me fuller faster. I have been stuck a 140 for a long time and increasing my water helped me!! I'm not saying drink how much I do but water does help!!

Great info-
It would make sense that water would help your organs function more effieciently and most people IMO don't drink enough water (including me) and might be a an explanation behind drinking more water that isn't emphasized enough.
