I am 52 years old, I have had three neck fusions, three knee surgeries so have suffered from chronic pain, but pain seemed to be under control until recently when started taking actonel. Seems like my neck pain has intensified and having knee pain again.. Thinking about stopping and seeing if pain will stop. Dont know if it has anything to do with meds or am just having flare up of my chronic pain.Doc keeps insisting imperative I take cuz of bone density results - say i have osteopenia.
COULD IT BE FROM ACTONEL?
And also, here are my results - are they really that bad that I need these meds?
Lumbar spine (total)
BMD patient (gm/cm2):

Osteopenia is not as severe as Osteoporosis. When I stopped the drugs, on the advice of a gastroenterologist, all the horrendous symptoms I was experiencing went away. If it were me, I would want to know if it was the drug causing the pain flare up. If it is not related, you could always resume the drug, if that is your choice. As I just posted to another thread, you might want to read the book The Myth of Osteoporosis.
