Somehow I got cut off from my post"Pain from Actonel".
My bone density results are as follows: Are they really that bad that I need to take the actonel if it is causing me to have bone pain? I do not understand the results but doc says I must take it.

Lumbar spine Itotal - BMD 0.869, T Score (mean for young adult) -l.6, relative fracture 2.8

Left Hip (total) BMD 0.649, T score (mean for young adult) -2.4, relative fracture risk 4.7

Left femoral neck
BMD patent 0.655, T score (mean for young adult -1.7)

Impression - osteopenia

Doctor says because of these results and the fact that I have had three neck fusions and degenerative disk disease it is really important that I take the med, but really think it is causing my normal pain to become worse.
Thanks for any ideas or infor.

Ciarra,
Your T Scores don't look that bad although it sounds like your doctor is recommending that you maintain or improve your bone density so the fusions aren't effected negatively. I'd agree with you if the Actonel is causing you pain maybe it's not worth it. I do kinow that it's much easier to prevent further bone loss than to improve bone density so maybe the doctor just wants you to maintain what you have. Can you switch medications that might not cause the pain?

I have tried fosamax and had same problem from that. I was on the miacalcium spray first but doctor didnt think that was good enough so wanted me on fosamax or actonel, but think am going to stop the actonel and go back on the spray. Guess its better than nothing. Thanks for your help
