View Full Version : Look much younger than I am...

I know this sounds insane to be worried about... but I am almost 22 years old and I look really young for my age. I used to be terribly thin and lanky which made me a little insecure, but I've filled out a little more over the years.

I have almost no facial hair and barely ever need to shave, and it seems like I haven't really changed at all in appearance over the past few years. When I look at pictures of myself from when I was in high school, I look almost exactly the same! (I'm a Senior in College now). People tell me this all the time too, that I don't look 21 at all, rather more like I'm 17 or 18. Even when I tell people I'm 21 in conversation or whatnot, they all gasp in disbelief like it's not possible lol.

A fact that also doesn't help is that my 18 year old brother looks like a full-on man! , He's probably 4 inches taller than me, broad shoulders and athletic build, and practically grows a full beard if he doesn't shave for two days. He's still in high school, and one of my mother's friends was at our house the other day and saw us in the kitchen. She pointed at my brother and said "wow, your college boy really grew up!"... and then I had to dumbly say umm, actually I'm the senior in college... he's still in high school :p .

I'm not a bad looking guy at all really, I'd say I'm fairly attractive, but this issue really affects my confidence with girls as well. The last two girls I've dated were both 18, because the girls in my college classes all look like grown women! I'd feel like a little kid going up to them and asking them out, even though I have a lot more in common with them than with younger girls obviously. It's odd, because I'm a pretty outgoing/confident person, but this issue really makes me self-conscious around women my age.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything else, I just didn't know where else to go really. Everybody acts like it's a blessing or something; like I should be happy that I haven't aged that much. But obviously I don't feel that way, and it really affects how I see myself sometimes. Should I be so worried about girls my age being interested? Am I just going overboard with this whole thing?

Enjoy it!!!

Please :)

You will look old soon enough and then you'll never look young again, EVER.

Plus I personally like younger or younger looking guys myself, there are definitely lots of women like that out there.

Looking young means that you can "get away" with a lot more, you can dress and even act a little immature if you feel like it :) Society won't give you the dirty looks it will when you have a full beard and are starting to bald!

Please trust me! :)

Be bold and ask out the women you like. You are probably more worried about your youthful appearance than they are.

I am a woman, so didn't have the same issues as you but I also have always looked much younger than my age. When I was very young like you, it was annoying. Once I got to my 30s, I've loved it ever since! :-)

I think these guys don't really understand what you are talking about. I can, because I had the same problem, only I am a woman. Well, I think there might be some problem with your growth hormone levels. I would go to see somebody about it, give blood test or smth. I recently had to have hormone replacement therapy and it made my some things grow, which made me look more like a woman. Also, you need to gain some weight and do some muscle training, it makes your shoulders broad, trust me, that happened to my skinny lil brother.
Ok, wish you luck.

If it makes you feel any better...I got carded at the movies...when I was 19...to get into a film you needed to be 6 years old to get into with a parent (which I was with) and 13 to get into alone!!!

Trust me...it's probably only really noticable to you...personally, I love a babyfaced boy ;)

Hey,
I know how you feel. I'm female and It's been like this ever since I was about 14. When I hit 14 I still looked about 12 then every year from then on I've looked 2 yrs younger than my age!!

But now I'm 22 and I've come to a wierd stand still. It's my stupid cheeks theyre so rounded not defined. I want cheek bones damn it!!!!!!!! I still look about 19 so now it's 3yrs younger! But I've had people say I look 17 at times!! I get called any age from 17 - 20 ish. 20 is a good age to lookg for me being 22 I can handle that. It's a little annoying people make a big deal out of it and act so suprised when I say I'm 22. It's just people reactions that annoy me.

When people get to know me they realise I must be older (maturity) the way I hold conversations etc. I don't get ID everytime it's just really depends what I'm wearing but remember I'm getting ID for looking under 18 as drinking laws are 18 or over in UK Damn it!!!

It gets to me, but reading what you guys are saying about hanging onto my youth as it will go eventually. When I'm 30, I know I'll be fresh looking still and thats whats keeping me positive about looking young! They're just jealous basically.

I've got the same problem. I'm 30, and I can't get into an R-rated movie without ID. I look 14 or 15 (I'm short, relatively thin, with a roundish face, and smooth skin). I've been accused of having a fake ID in bars. It really doesn't bug me though. I don't guess it ever did. I think it has annoyed my boyfriend (for obvious reasons). 22 isn't old at all, and you might not always look young. My bro used to date this woman that is younger than I, and she used to look really young, but now she looks like she's in her 40's. Anyway, I'm sure it's not that big of a deal. If you really want to look older, you could always take on bad habits like tanning and smoking. They'll work, but it would take years, and they aren't worth the damage to your health.

I'm 18 and I grew a mustache to keep myself looking my age. I had it shaved off for a part in a film, but then my girlfriend kept telling me that I looked 4 years younger. Heh, weird.

Thanks for the reply. You sure you look 14yrs old at ages 30? Is it because you're small? I know loads of small women at my part time office job and they look like teenagers from the back but up front you realise theyre not that young.

I dont smoke and I don't want to start! I'm dark skinned anyway so I don't need to tan! I guess make up will have to do and they say you grow in your sleep lol

hey, I gotta agree..nothing wrong with younger looking men. I like them personally and when you're older, you'll love it. I'm a 29 yr old female and I get carded for cigs still! I always laugh and thank them. Plus, lots of the guys my age seem to look so old...I'm looking for a guy my age who doesnt look 45.

Cybernick,

Hon, don't fret about looking young now. Wait until you get to be my age, then you'll be thankful you look young.

I'm 41 and when people don't know that I have a kid in college, they think I'm either 29 or 30. When I was 21, people thought I was 13 or 14. Be thankful you have a youthful look. Count it as a blessing. :D

Actually... I suffer the same problem.

I basically reached a 15 year old body type and stopped. I didn't really worry about it because i had seen people fill out and grow much later then 18. However, now it bothers me because I want to be older. It's hard looking in the mirror at a teenagers body, and yet feeling so much older on the inside.

I'm 26 and I called today to set up an appointment with a doctor. I need to at least know that I tried to find out if it was possible to continue my growth.

It really has a bad effect on you. I consider myself cute, but women don't flock to my door, I mean if I was a women I would want a man to protect me, not me having to protect the man.

So looking young is not bad, but looking like a kid is bad. I don't mind looking 20, I do mind looking 15.

I was goona link a picture but I can't. REMOVED. if you want to see a picture just so you know I'm not just blowing smoke.

My advice is see a doctor ASAP. That way you know. There are doctors that deal with just the growth issue, so see your doctor and find out if he thinks you should be tested for a growth disorder.
